Questions about selling
How do you work out what you will pay?
We pay a fixed 98% of the live spot price for the metal content. The rate is the same for gold, silver, platinum and palladium, and it is published rather than negotiated — you can work out your figure before you contact us.
Is the quote binding?
The figure from the calculator is indicative. Once we have spoken and confirmed the detail, your price is held for two business days, provided the items match what you described.
Do you buy jewellery or scrap?
No. We deal in investment-grade bullion only — coins and bars from recognised mints and LBMA-approved refiners. Jewellery, broken scrap, stone-set pieces and plated items are outside what we handle.
What if my coins are worn or the packaging is damaged?
Condition matters far less for bullion than for collectable coins, because we are buying the metal. Worn Sovereigns are perfectly saleable. Bars are simpler to trade sealed, but an opened bar is still fine.
How should I send items?
Royal Mail Special Delivery is insured to £2,500 per parcel, so split larger holdings across several parcels or ask us to arrange insured collection. Never send by ordinary post.
When do I get paid?
By bank transfer within three working days of verification. Same-day payment is available if you need it — ask when we speak.
What do I need to provide?
Photo ID and proof of address, as we are required to verify identity. We will tell you exactly what is acceptable when we call.
Will I pay tax on what I receive?
Possibly. Gains on bullion can be liable to Capital Gains Tax, though UK legal tender coins such as Britannias and Sovereigns are exempt for UK residents. Our CGT guide explains it. We are not tax advisers — take your own advice where the sums are meaningful.
Can I sell metal you are already storing?
Yes, and it is the simplest route — nothing has to move and nothing is at risk in transit. There is no withdrawal fee when you sell from storage back to us.
